Ten Baccarat Variants From Evolution and Pragmatic Play, and What Each Pays Back

A standard baccarat table returns 98.94% on the Banker bet and 98.76% on the Player bet. Every Evolution and Pragmatic Play variant starts from that same hand, then changes a rule or a payout, and some add a fee.

How Does a Baccarat Hand Work?

Baccarat asks which hand, Player or Banker, finishes closer to 9. The dealer and the software handle every draw, so your only decision is the bet you place before the deal.

Card Values

  • 10, Jack, Queen, King: 0 points
  • Ace: 1 point
  • 2 to 9: face value

Totals never go above 9. When cards add up to 10 or more, only the last digit counts, so an 8 and a 7 make 5.

The Three Main Bets

  • Player: pays 1:1
  • Banker: pays 1:1, minus a 5% commission on wins
  • Tie: pays 8:1 at most tables, and 9:1 at some

The Banker wins slightly more often than the Player because of the drawing rules, and the commission offsets that edge. A $100 Banker win pays $95.

Naturals and the Third-Card Rule

Each hand gets two cards, and a total of 8 or 9 is a natural that ends the round at once. Without a natural, the Player hand draws on 0 to 5 and stands on 6 or 7.

The Banker hand then draws or stands based on its own total and the Player’s third card. The casino plays out both hands by fixed drawing rules known as the tableau.

How Do Evolution’s Baccarat Variants Change the Return?

Evolution’s variants keep standard card values and change the fees, payouts or format around them. Main-bet returns run from 98.25% on the Always 9 Baccarat Player bet to 98.94% on the Squeeze and First Person Banker bets.

Lightning Baccarat

Lightning Baccarat picks one to five Lightning Cards each round and gives them multipliers such as 2x, 3x, 4x or 8x. A winning hand that holds those cards pays the boosted amount.

A 20% Lightning Fee is added to each bet to fund the multiplier payouts, and the optimal return is 98.76%. It’s the baccarat variant named in our lobby.

Peek Baccarat

Peek Baccarat lets you look at one to four face-down cards before the hand finishes, then double or triple your original bet. A 20% commission applies to initial bets, and the top return is 98.80%.

Always 9 Baccarat

Always 9 Baccarat is the newest of the group and follows Always 8 Baccarat. The Banker bet pays 0.56:1 for a 98.44% return, the Player bet pays 1.65:1 for 98.25%, and the Tie pays 9:1 for 95.99%.

Bac Bo

Bac Bo swaps cards for dice, with automated shakers rolling two dice for each side. The layout matches standard baccarat, and both main bets return 98.87%.

Baccarat Squeeze

Baccarat Squeeze follows standard rules while the dealer reveals face-down cards slowly, the way players squeeze cards at land-based tables in Macau. The Banker bet returns 98.94%.

First Person Baccarat

First Person Baccarat runs on a 3D table powered by a random number generator, with no live dealer timer. A GO LIVE button moves your session and chip balance to a live studio table, and the Banker bet returns 98.94%.

Salon Privé and Multi-Table Play

Evolution also runs Salon Privé rooms for high-stakes players. Its desktop layout lets you open up to four live tables on one screen.

How Do Pragmatic Play’s Baccarat Tables Differ?

Pragmatic Play builds its baccarat tables for a phone held upright and leans on speed and side bets. Its main-bet returns run from 98.79% on Mega Baccarat to 98.94% on the Speed and Fortune 6 Banker bets.

The betting grid, the roadmaps of past results and the stream are all sized for portrait play. That layout suits anyone joining live baccarat online from a phone.

Speed Baccarat

Speed Baccarat deals cards face-up at once and shortens the betting window, so rounds finish in under 30 seconds. The Banker bet returns 98.94% under standard commission rules, and Evolution runs its own Speed Baccarat tables too.

Mega Baccarat

Mega Baccarat adds random Mega Multipliers to winning combinations during a Mega Round, with an optimal return of 98.79%. The multiplier rounds raise volatility, which means bigger swings between sessions.

Fortune 6 Baccarat

Fortune 6 Baccarat keeps standard rules and adds side bets built around the number six.

  • Player 6 and Banker 6: pay when that hand wins with a total of six
  • Fortune 6: pays on combinations involving sixes

The Banker bet returns 98.94%. The side bets return less and swing harder.

No Commission Baccarat

No Commission Baccarat runs at both studios, with Banker wins paying 1:1 and no 5% fee. A Banker win with a total of exactly 6 pays 1:2, which is half the stake.

Drops & Wins

Pragmatic Play links its live tables to Drops & Wins, a network promotion. It awards random cash prizes during normal play.

Which Baccarat Variant Returns the Most?

Standard-rule Banker bets return the most, at 98.94% on Squeeze, First Person, Speed and Fortune 6 tables. Tie bets and side bets such as Pairs sit far lower, often in the 86% to 89% range.

  • Squeeze, First Person, Speed and Fortune 6 (Banker): 98.94%
  • Bac Bo (both main bets): 98.87%
  • Peek Baccarat: up to 98.80%
  • Mega Baccarat: 98.79%
  • Lightning Baccarat: 98.76%
  • Always 9 Baccarat: 98.44% on Banker, 98.25% on Player, 95.99% on Tie
  • Tie and Pairs side bets: often 86% to 89%
